2 Imaginary Phases in Two - Level Model with Spontaneous Decay

چکیده
We study a two-level model coupled to the electromagnetic vacuum and to a weak external electric field with fixed frequency. The amplitude of the external electrical field is supposed to vary very slowly in time. The coupling of the two-level system with the environment (vacuum) introduces decreasing exponentials in the probability of the two-level system to be in its upper level. Garrison and Wright (Phys. Lett. A128 (1988) 177) used the non-hermitian Hamiltonian approach to study the adiabatic limit of this model and concluded that the decreasing exponential is an imaginary geometric phase. Using the master equation for describing the time evolution of the two-level system at finite temperature we obtain that the imaginary phase due to dissipative effects is time dependent, in opposition to Garrison and Wright result.

متن کاملQuantization of electromagnetic fields in the presence of a spherical semiconductor quantum dot and spontaneous decay of an excited atom doped in this nanostructure
In this paper we consider electromagnetic field quantization in the presence of a dispersive and absorbing semiconductor quantum dot. By using macroscopic approach and Green's function method, quantization of electromagnetic field is investigated. Interaction of a two-level atom , which is doped in a semiconductor quantum dot, with the quantized field is considered and its spontaneous emission ...

The spontaneous emission rate can be modified by altering theaspect ratio of the elliptical nanoparticle, the background refractive index andnan...
متن کاملNot so imaginary (penguin) annihilation diagrams in PQCD
We argue against the claim regarding large imaginary contributions generated by annihilation or penguin annihilation diagrams in B-decays within the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach. It is shown that the typical integrals that are supposed to yield complex values and hence generate large imaginary parts, actually lead to real results implying absence of strong phases through these diagrams. One...

We contemplate the pair of the purely imaginary delta-function potentials on a finite interval with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The two parameter model exhibits nicely the expected quantitative features of the unavoided level crossing and of a " phase-transition " com-plexification of the energies. Combining analytic and numerical techniques we investigate strength-and position-dependence of...
